Nexa: Climate and Health Innovation Transition-to-Scale (TTS) Funding Opportunity - Applications Extended

The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) invites eligible South African organisations to apply for the Transition-to-Scale (TTS) funding stream under the Nexa: Climate and Health Innovation initiative.

The Nexa programme partners have extended the submission deadline for Transition-to-Scale applications to 12 August 2026, providing eligible innovators with additional time to prepare competitive applications.

Important Notice

Proof of Concept (PoC) applications closed on 22 July 2026 and are no longer being accepted. The deadline extension applies only to the Transition-to-Scale (TTS) funding stream.

About Nexa

Nexa is a global climate and health innovation initiative co-led by Grand Challenges Canada and the Science for Africa Foundation, together with a global consortium of funding partners. The initiative invests in bold, locally led innovations that strengthen health systems and improve resilience to climate-related health threats by enabling local health actors to anticipate and respond to climate-driven health risks.

Transition-to-Scale Funding

Transition-to-Scale supports innovations that have already demonstrated feasibility and early evidence of impact and are ready for implementation and scale.

Funding available:

  • Approximately USD 250,000 – USD 2 million
  • Investment period of up to 24 months
  • Funding may be provided by one or more Nexa partners depending on the innovation and funding arrangements.

Areas of Focus

Applications should address innovative climate and health solutions aligned with one or more of the following priority areas:

  • Climate-informed early warning and monitoring systems
  • Climate-responsive patient care delivery

Applicants are encouraged to review the official Funding Opportunity for detailed guidance on the programme priorities, scope and eligibility requirements.

Who Can Apply?

The Transition-to-Scale funding opportunity is open to eligible legally incorporated organisations developing innovative climate and health solutions for implementation in eligible countries.

Applicants should carefully review the official Request for Applications to confirm their eligibility and ensure compliance with all programme requirements before applying.

Applications must be submitted through the official Grand Challenges Canada Fluxx Application Portal before the deadline. Late applications will not be accepted.
