Research focus: Cardio-oncology and cardiometabolic disorders

My research sits at the intersection of cancer therapy and metabolic health, investigating the shared mechanisms driving chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity and diabetic cardiomyopathy. By addressing how oncological treatments and metabolic dysregulation converge to induce heart failure, I work to tackle the escalating burden of non-communicable diseases in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.

Utilizing a bench-to-bedside approach, integrating in vitro assays, preclinical animal models, and clinical biomarker validation, my goal is to translate foundational discoveries into novel therapeutic strategies that safeguard cardiovascular health in vulnerable patient populations.
