Brightness joins the SAMRC with an exceptional record of leadership in transformation, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Throughout her distinguished career, she has driven transformation agendas across a range of institutions, including the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, the Centre for Diversity, Inclusivity and Social Change (CDISC), Higher Education Resource Services South Africa (HERS-SA), and several public and private higher education institutions.

Her professional journey reflects a unique blend of scholarship, teaching, and executive management. This combination has enabled her not only to contribute to the intellectual discourse on transformation but, importantly, to translate ideas into meaningful institutional change.

Throughout her career, she has challenged organisations to move beyond compliance-driven approaches and embrace genuine transformation that embeds equity, belonging, and cultural humility into governance, leadership, and organisational practice.

Beyond her institutional leadership roles, Brightness has contributed significantly through board service, mentoring programmes, and community-based initiatives. She is widely recognised for her ability to engage leaders and stakeholders in critical conversations about systemic barriers while helping organisations reimagine more inclusive and equitable futures. As a published scholar and co-editor of transformative academic works, she brings both intellectual depth and practical expertise to the role.
