Specialist
under 45 years
This is a salary contribution and enables specialists
under 45 years to spend dedicated time undertaking research training usually
for a dissertation for an M Med, MD or PhD

Salary contribution of R120
000.00. The employing institution provides a salary top-up
Conditions
The employing institution
must agree to provide a salary to-up in keeping with the institutions salary
scales and free the applicant from clinical duties to enable him/her to conduct
full-time research
Application
Process
- A request for applications
is sent to the tertiary institutions with medical faculties
- An applicant must consult
beforehand with the research supervisor(s) under whose supervision the
research will be undertaken
- Applications are submitted
to the MRC through the institutions administrative office
- Applicants must submit,
a research plan, institutional and ethics approval for the project, proof
of source of funding for the research project, 3 referees reports, publication
list of supervisor for the past 3 years
Selection Criteria
- Population Group: priority is given to blacks, particularly African
- Gender: priority is given to females
- Academic record/potential
of the applicant: must be ranked highly
- Research area and outputs expected must be outlined and linked to MRC's strategic research priorities
- Referees ranking must be high
- Supervisors credentials
and experience must be ranked as credible
- Detailed project with institutional research ethical
approval
- Availability of running
expenses for the project
Successful
applicants are required to:

of grant period
