Research Development Grants
This category of funding provides research grants for academic staff at HDIs, allied health professionals and nurses for purposes of development. All proposals are peer reviewed before funding is approved and applicants receive support throughout the research proposal development process. This grant assists with establishing a research node around an individual through additional support for students, staff credentialing grants and technical assistance grants.
Who qualifies for funding?
- Allied health professionals and nurses
- Researchers under development in the MRC
- Academic staff at HDI's
- Applications identified by the Grants committee from the SIR approval process
- For funding as is
- For funding following minor revision
- For consideration for funding following major revision
What is the period of funding?
One year, renewable for a second and third year.
What is the value of the funding?
A maximum of R50 000 per annum.
What conditions apply?
The Principal Investigator should have a master's degree and 2 or more years of research experience and publications. The research proposal must have ethical approval.
What is the application process?
- MRC researchers apply within unit applications
- Potential applicants may consult with Research Capacity Development Sub-Directorate
- Application is screened by Research Grants Management, if necessary additional scientists are consulted
- Full proposal is submitted through the institutions administrative office
Obligation of grant holder
Annual progress reports. A final report within 2 months after the final period of research funding.
