University of the Western Cape (UWC) and Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT)

The aim of the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) is to drive biomedical research and build a healthy nation through research. To this end, the SAMRC recognizes the importance of national collaborative biomedical research to advance science and expand biomedical knowledge.  Additionally, these collaborations, must in the future, include ALL South African academic institutions and not be limited to previously advantaged and established universities. One of the aims of the President of the SAMRC, is to strengthen research initiatives and develop enhanced research capacity at historically disadvantaged institutions. The President envisions that through this research strengthening and capacity-building funding opportunity, these institutions will be capacitated to conduct excellent multidisciplinary research to address some of the key questions that could impact on lowering the burden of disease in South Africa.

This Request for Applications (RFA) invites five separate applications from the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and Mangosuthu University of Technology in clinical, biomedical, behavioral, basic, applied and/or translational science to submit individual or collaborative research proposals. The intent of this RFA is to build South Africa’s national research efforts by capacitating previously disadvantaged institutions to compete in the competitive SA and global research funding arena.
