The South African Medical Research Council’s Research Capacity Development (RCD) seeks to appoint an experienced Project Manager to contribute to RCD ISI peer review and publications, proposal writing and to poster or oral presentations. The incumbent must have scientific writing skills, mentorship skills, project management skills, including producing accurate financial and technical reports, disbursements of scholarships, monitoring compliance, timeous reporting and evaluating processes or projects.  

Core Requirements:
Key Competencies and skills:
  • A PhD in health-related field or equivalent, preferably in research management and or administration.
  • At least 2-3 years post PhD in scientific research environment (such as Science Council or University).
  • Administration of portfolio including designing and running of RFA or sourcing funding, managing peer review, selection and approval processes, contracting, disbursement of funding and monitoring technical and financial reports.
  • Administration of peer review of submitted research projects for funding
  • Relevant theoretical background and practical experience to manage projects, deliver and coordinate independent high quality scientific outputs and create/optimize opportunities.
  • Understanding and observation of deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal, writing and communication skills.
  • Managing of high level stakeholders.
  • Oversight of junior staff
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Computer literacy.

  • Willingness to learn and participate across all  RCD programs.

  • Valid unendorsed code 8 driver’s license.  

A salary in the region of R 638 951 per annum, cost-to-company will be negotiated in consideration of experience and qualifications.
