The division is responsible for:

• HIV/AIDS Bioinformatics Research
• Development of HIV/AIDS medical and bioinformatics data management systems in collaboration with the South African AIDS Vaccine Initiative (SAAVI), the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA) and the Free State HIV/AIDS antireroviral rollout program
• TB and HIV/AIDS information and knowledge management systems and portals
• Development of data management systems for health systems research
• Developing desktop database applications for tuberculosis and nutrition research
• Medical informatics training and capacity development
