Job opportunities at the MRC

Legal Advisor

Due to growth within the MRC and in large consortium-based contract research, the MRC’s Legal Services Department currently requires the services of a Legal Advisor with an LLB degree and who is an admitted attorney in South Africa.

Candidates must possess have at least 6 years relevant post-articles experience in a corporate / commercial law environment and have proven ability in contract and corporate/commercial law as well as intellectual property law. Experience in the field of Labour and/or Environmental law or any other relevant qualification will serve as a distinct advantage.

Reporting to the National Manager:  Legal Services, the candidate’s key performance areas will entail: 

  • negotiating commercial agreements in collaboration with project teams;
  • drafting, vetting and amending commercial agreements independently;
  • representing the MRC in all legal matters, providing legal research, advice and written opinions;
  • keeping abreast of legislative developments affecting the MRC including presenting and training on legal issues and legislation.

Candidates must furthermore demonstrate sound knowledge of corporate governance-related issues and must be equipped with proven legal drafting skills and ability, as well as excellent negotiation and communication skills. The candidate must be willing to travel as well as work irregular hours and be in possession of a valid Code 8 driver’s licence.
