Community mobilization
is an integral part of ensuring the success of the Unit’s clinical trials.
The community mobilisation project in the HIV Prevention Research Unit (HPRU)
was implemented 3 years ago and has evolved with regards to community involvement
and capacity development of staff members. It has achieved successful partnerships
and collaborations with various community/governmental structures at different
levels, around the Durban Region.

Objectives

To achieve sustained
collaborations and partnerships with all stakeholders. |

Disseminate awareness
information on HIV/AIDS, STIs and Clinical Trials. |

Ensure community
participation in research including male involvement. |

Ensure retention
of participants in research through community interaction. |
Facilitate formation
of support groups and income generating projects with community organizations. |
