The work of the Health Promotion and Behavioural Interventions Research Unit encompasses
- Conducting research that informs policy (view our policy briefs under "Publications") and systematic intervention development.
- Networking with relevant national and international organisations and individuals in health promotion for the purpose of sharing knowledge and resources.
- Contributing to the development of theories and methodologies in health promotion as they are appropriate to the needs of developing countries.
- Collaborating with universities, government ministries and departments and non-governmental organisations by providing technical and intellectual support for health promotion initiatives.
- Working in conjunction with practitioners trained in other scientific paradigms (e.g. biomedical) both within and outside the MRC for the purpose of promoting a balanced and co-ordinated effort in building health.
- Focusing on selected areas in health promotion research while creating a framework for a wide-ranging possibility of research with a life-cycle approach to research viz. intervening at different age levels.
- Designing bio-behavioural research interventions, which combine the biological and behavioural levels of health outcomes using methodologies such as randomised control trials.
