World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Urban Health
to WHO

Background
The World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Urban Health (WHOCCUH) was designated by the World Health Organisation in 1995. The overall goal of the WHOCCUH is to contribute to improved urban health through pooling the research-academic-service provision expertise, experiences and resources of the four partner organisations together.

The main areas of work of the WHOCCUH are:

  1. To conduct research on health and environment determinants and their management in human settlements;
  2. collaborating with member states of the WHO African Region in the development of capacity in the fields of urban health, environment and sustainable development;
  3. to contribute to the development of more effective and efficient approaches to the delivery of urban health service;
  4. to promote models for integrated and sustainable development and urban health, for example healthy cities and healthy environments for children.
