Request for Applications: SAMRC Extramural Research Units

Status:          Open
Open date:   15 July 2017
Close date:   30 September 2017
Categories:  Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases, Traumatic Injuries and Antimicrobial   Resistance (AMR)

This Request for Applications (RFA) is for the establishment of new SAMRC Extramural Research Units in the areas of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases, Traumatic Injuries and Antimicrobial   Resistance (AMR). These new Units will be approved for funding if they meet specific criteria, e.g. to provide scientific leadership in key research areas, or to research important research questions where the need cannot easily be addressed through short-term grant funding.

The funding for the SAMRC EMUs represents a secure, discretionary, financial incentive which is approved in 5-year cycles, for a maximum of 15-years depending on performance, and should facilitate efforts to leverage external research funding. It is expected that institutional co-funding and the sum of external grants should exceed the amount invested in the Unit by the SAMRC by several-fold. Becoming an SAMRC EMU, also provides research institutions with the opportunity to contribute to the development of the next generation of research leaders.

All applications must be submitted on a SAMRC Extramural Research Unit Application Form
