African street party - 28 November 2006
The African Street Party will include an authentic indoor African Market, with representatives of different cultural groups from across the continent. This event will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in the heart of Cape Town from 18:00 - 23:00pm on the 28 November 2006.
A diverse collection of African arts and artifacts from Southern Africa will be displayed at the market, including handmade masks, traditional south African bitlong and dried fruit and nuts, jewellery,clothing, Mandela-style shirts, pottery and much more. This market's sheer volume of cultural treasures and creative inspiration will promote the continent and give you a new perspective of Africa. A photographer will be present at this memorable occasion and photographs will be made available at a reasonable price.
You don't have to set foot off this site to listen to the exotic sounds of Africa. A marimba band will keep you occupied with good African music and the 'Minstrels' will open the function with 'District Six' music and dancing down the "African Street Walk", So don't forget your dancing shoes or even better, dance barefoot as is the traditional way.
The CTICC will cook up traditional meals in the microcosm of African life and Cape Malay cuisine as well.
