Research Programme
The Unit predominantly engages in applied research, focusing on the lifelong characteristics of chronic diseases of lifestyle. The research programme was identified in collaboration with the major stakeholders to inform policy makers to improve chronic diseases of lifestyle prevention and care. This Unit strives to use optimal research tools to achieve excellent, accurate results and develop these should they not be available in South Africa. The Unit collaborates with many South African and international researchers.
Mission of the Chronic Diseases of Lifestyle Research Unit (CDL)
To undertake and coordinate public health research, which addresses CDL whereby healthy lifestyles, early diagnosis, and cost-effective prevention and management of these diseases and their risk factors can be promoted among the South African population, using a life-course approach.
