Health Systems Research Unit
Research plans for 2008/09
The operational priorities for the next financial year will be on consolidating the rapid gains made over the previous 3 years. In particular we will be looking to ensure that the cadre of young African scientists have the support and space to develop their capacity to the highest level. We will also priortise working with National and Provincial Departments of Health and in particular focus upon strengthening communication and capacity development initiatives so that more of our work can be translated into policies and practices. Specific research objectives include:
- Successful completion of fieldwork for the present studies that are underway
- Translation of study results into peer reviewed outputs. At least 80% of staff to be producing 1 peer reviewed article.
- More active and innovative engagement with policy makers to ensure research translation
- Capacity development of Unit staff in research methods and writing
- Capacity development of policy makers both nationally and provincially
- Developing stronger partnerships with Government counterparts at all levels
- Continue to secure diverse income streams to ensure sustainability of research activities
